Turkey Delays 4G Auction By 3 Months

Turkey’s telecommunications regulator announced that 4G auction will be delayed by three months, to 26 August. The Communications Ministry said it agreed with potential bidders in the spectrum auction that more time was needed to finalise the technical and financial conditions of the licences.

The Turkish government previously planned the spectrum auction for 26 May and had set a minimum price of EUR 2.3 billion for the in total 390 MHz in the 800, 900, 1,800, 2,100 and 2,600 MHz bands available. Recently, the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said the country should stick with 3G before jumping to 5G technology and skip the interim step of 4G/LTE.
