Facebook is changing the way its 'Trending Topics' work

Facebook is creating a twist to the way you receive feeds as regards trending topics to your Facebook account. Basically, it entails the user placing the mouse cursor on a link or story for a pop-up window to display the contents of the story.

Still basking in the euphoria of the Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg’s first ever visit on the African soil with Lagos, Nigeria as his preferred destination, his company is however, rolling out innovations in the way users receive trending topics henceforth.

The new feature will change the way topics of headlines is been described, by highlighting the trending topic and excluding the excesses of the story displaying in a tab according to Facebook in a blog post.

The functionality of this new feature is simple: the moment you locate a story of your choice or interested in, simply place the cursor over that story, for a pop-up window (miniature) to display all the available contents and source. In addition, Facebook will automatically reveal to you how many people are having a conversation about that particular topic.

The US tech giant is making this approach in addressing its Trending section in order to ensure a seamless process rather than depending on human input as it were previously.

Earlier this week, Gizmodo – a tech publication site criticized and published two articles against Facebook’s pattern of trending its topics section which claims it was clouded with people’s opinions, leading to favoritism in its trending section. But the company has refuted the allegations after a detailed internal investigation of its trending topics section.

Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg is still radiating the shores of Nigerian cities, enjoying the soothing “jollof rice” meal which he attests as the best amongst its contemporaries.
