TechCrunch Wants To Give Nigerian Startups Global Recognition At Its Disrupt Event

The world’s leading technology site, TechCrunch is said to be bringing its legendary Meetup + Pitch-Off event to Lagos in July 2015 and are looking to find Nigerian early-stage start-ups that could feature at its Disrupt conference in San Francisco, this September.

Pre-selected start-ups (funded or un-funded), will have 60 seconds to pitch their product on stage and dazzle or excite a panel of judges, including TechCrunch editors, local venture capitalists, and successful start-up entrepreneurs, explaining why their start-up is awesome.

Three start-ups will then be selected as winners of the TechCrunch Pitch-Off, whereby the first place will receive a table in Startup Alley at TechCrunch Disrupt SF, the second place will receive two general admission tickets to Disrupt, and the third place will receive one general admission ticket to Disrupt.

Aside this, start-ups could get a booth at the Disrupt event to showcase their products to the world, and there may be some extras too, such as flight tickets to and fro as well as accommodation during the period, Toks Ogun, the local organizer of the TechCrunch Lagos Pitch-Off tells me.

According to Ogun, the goal is to bring the community together, get to know the amazing entrepreneurs in Nigeria, and get the word out about cool local start-ups. When I asked him if the start-ups would get the opportunity to pitch on stage to the Disrupt audience, he said it was not likely.

As the Pitch-Off approaches, start-ups will get to apply, so you’d better start working on that 60-second pitch right now. We’ll keep you updated as we know more in the next few weeks.
