HP Apologises After £1.58 Laptop Error On Its Website

HP, the U.S Tech company has apologised after an error on its website letting shoppers buy expensive laptop computers for less than £2.

One device was listed with a previous sale price of £2,378, but was "reduced" to £1.58. The computer firm briefly took its UK store offline on Saturday to resolve the error, and said it would not honour the sales that had been made.

"We apologise sincerely to impacted customers for any inconvenience caused," the firm said in a statement.

Over the weekend, a handful of people posted on social media that they had taken advantage of the mistake and ordered laptops.

But according to consumer rights group Citizens Advice, retailers can often cancel online orders if they have made a "genuine and honest mistake on their part that you should have noticed".

HP said buyers would be refunded.

"We can confirm that due to a processing error, select products were wrongly priced on our UK website over the weekend," HP said.

"This has now been corrected with related orders cancelled."

  4. I guess when it's too good to be true, it's not. This is a major blunder on hp.

  5. That would have been a huge loss for them if it went unnoticed! Although it would be a tad disappointing, I wouldn't mind getting a refund if I was one of the customers who purchased the said laptop. It was an honest mistake after all.

  6. Anything that is too good to be true, is probably a mistake. Still if this was a real store and an item had a wrong price tag, I think the price on the wrong tag will be honored, isn't it?

  7. Wow that's a pretty crazy error but people should've first stopped to think if there's a possible error if they can buy a laptop at that price. Haha! :O

  8. There must be someone in the back end who approves of the changes being made on the site before it goes public. I think whoever who has done the mistake should be held accountable.

  10. I think, some business people are doing the mistake just to catch the attention of the buyers. But if it's truly a mistake, then, so be it. Don't cry over the item because you knew beforehand that it's really very cheap.

  13. I used to be a HP user for at least 10 years, until I changed to Macbook Pro 2 years ago. Never regret ever since! I hope HP will become better in future!

  14. Now I feel so sorry for the staff who mistakenly input a wrong price for this item. I just hope he wasn't been fired.
